Thank you for giving me a few moments of your time! As a lifelong resident of Lenoir City, I am proud to be raising my family here today. My family is what drives me to be the best that I can be. After a 15-year career as an educator, my wife Angela has shifted her focus and is currently wrapping up her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and hopes to open her own practice in the near future. Abigail, our oldest daughter is a Junior at Tennessee Technological University and is majoring in Electrical Engineering. Lauren, our youngest attends Lenoir City High School and plays trombone in the marching band. We are truly blessed with wonderful kids. Angela and I have a heart to serve others; it’s where we find great joy. We have been able to serve on several mission trips to places like Peru, Uganda, and most recently, Nicaragua. We love to serve!
After graduating LCHS and earning my college degree, I worked as a project manager for a Knoxville based architecture firm for 10 years. During the economic downturn in 2007, I transitioned employment to the City of Knoxville. My job duties at the City of Knoxville include writing competitive federal grant applications, creating and managing multi-million dollar budgets and work plans, managing a team of project contract supervisors, and overseeing multiple federally funded construction and economic development programs. For the last 15 years, I have seen how government operates from the inside out. I know the importance of citizen engagement, transparency, detailed plans, and proper budgetary planning. Since 2016 I have also operated a home-based business called Volunteer Home Solutions, where I provide consulting and technical services for contractors, developers, non-profits, and municipalities across the state, specializing in project management and federal regulatory compliance. In 2021 I earned the designation of Certified Public Manager from the University of Tennessee Naifeh Center for Effective Leadership. I believe that my experiences and training have prepared me for this time of service to my hometown.
A public servant should do just that; serve the public. I believe the most important thing that any elected official can do, is listen to their fellow citizens. Carrying out the vision and desires of the very residents who place public servants in office and pay the bills is exactly what I plan to do. Let me be your voice at City Hall.
“What is your position on development?” is often the first question of Lenoir City residents. Development is, without a doubt, the main issue in this election cycle. With over 15 years of government development and planning experience, I bring a solid foundation of knowledge to the table, and an understanding of how things work from the inside out.
I believe that unregulated development is irresponsible, but unregulated development with developer tax breaks thrown on top is beyond irresponsible, especially in an environment where housing prices are at an all-time high, meaning developer profits are at an all-time high. We must get a grasp on the density (# of units per acre) and the locations where these developments are being approved. Some may say that it does not seem that bad, but remember that only a portion of the City Council approved housing units are under construction. Once the full slate of approved units is built and occupied, it will undoubtedly strain our public systems. I guess you could say that we are only currently seeing the tip of the iceberg.
Here are some astonishing numbers: According to the 2020 U.S. Census data, Lenoir City had 4,180 housing units. In just the last 18 months, City Council has approved the development plans for and/or rezoned properties in the City to pave the way for an approx. 5,000 more units. Imagine twice the traffic, twice the students in the classrooms, twice the number of necessary police and fire personnel, etc. You get the picture. You can see this evidence by the fact that the Loudon County and Lenoir City school systems are contemplating multi-million dollar building plans because of this current and coming student body increase.
The choice is clear. If you are looking for a candidate who will listen to your concerns and vote based on facts and understanding the outcomes, I am your candidate. I will support a temporary moratorium on high-density development until the City’s zoning regulations can be evaluated and addressed.
Providing citizens with the whole picture of the operations of our city is the only way to maintain confidence in our local government. I am committed to withholding nothing and telling the whole story. The public should always know the plans that our elected officials are pursuing. I want to not only hear what you have to say but also to understand.
Our historic downtown is the identity of our city. I will support our downtown business and property owners by developing plans that will ensure the protection of our historic buildings and the investment that has already been made. Our downtown is becoming the gathering place of our city, so let’s make it something to be proud of.
I believe that a healthy city is a happy city. I am a big proponent of better parks and greenway systems. I will work to ensure that the Parks & Recreation Dept. has the budget it needs to not only expand and develop new facilities but also to properly maintain our existing facilities.
Public services are a vital part of our everyday life. I will work to identify efficiencies and opportunities to improve upon existing services. Our incredible team of first responders have my full support as they strive to keep our city safe.
Our neighborhoods are the place we call home. I will work hard to ensure that
neighborhood concerns are not only heard but addressed by our city government. By building stronger, more organized communities, we can deliver a more effective and cohesive voice directly to City Hall.
Lenoir City is not only a great place to live but should be a great place to work as well with good-paying jobs. I am committed to doing what it takes to bring additional desirable, good-paying jobs to our city. Lenoir City is more than a bedroom community to Knoxville, Oak Ridge, and Maryville. Together we can create a city in which we can find great places to live, play, and work.
